The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established in 1989 by the Maharashtra State Legislature and is the fifth Open University in India. Its campus, 'Dnyangangotri' (River of Knowledge), spans 147 acres and is located in Nashik. YCMOU is recognized under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, and is self-financed under the Ministry of Higher & Technical Education. It aims to provide affordable higher education to large segments of the population by removing barriers such as age, entry qualification, place, and pace of study.
YCMOU is one of the Mega Open Universities in India, disseminating learning through continuing education and lifelong learning to the working population in Maharashtra, including practicing farmers and farm women.
