Vellore Engineering College was granted university status by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development in 2001.

VIT Business School (VITBS), established in September 1994, is in its Silver Jubilee Year. They have campuses at Vellore, Chennai and Bhopal. The VIT Business School works to create thought-leaders who are creative, socially conscious, morally upright, and internationally competent. Undergraduate (BBA), graduate (MBA), and doctoral (Ph. D.) business programmes are all offered by VITBS. The courses are made to inject profound insights and solid business concepts into practise, actively engaging with foreign universities and industry, and impacting practise.
